Mighty Card Campaign

Mighty Card campaign This campaign was created to collect signatures by youth across Kingston to influence the Ontario government to sue tobacco companies for health-related costs due to smoking. The petition-like cards were a take-off of the Master Card, resembling the credit card with the quote: “There are some things tax buyers should buy, for tobacco-related debt, let’s make them pay.” Signatures were collected from approximately 3,000 high school students across the Kingston and surrounding area high schools. The cards were shipped off to Premier McGuinty and we even received a response back! It wasn’t to our liking because he avoided the issue, but at least our message was heard. Now, several other Youth Action Alliances across Ontario are following suit and holding Mighty Card campaigns in high schools, shopping centres, and movie theatres.
